Liposuction Types

There are a few different types of liposuction for you to consider.

One variation is tumescence liposuction. In this, the doctor treats the area that he is going to liposuction prior to surgery. This treatment helps distinguish the fat layer from the soft tissue. It will help reduce the bleeding and bruising in the patient, as well as assist the surgeon with the ability to make smaller incisions and use milder sedation.

In suction-assisted liposuction, the removal of the fat is supported with some type of suction. This procedure uses a stainless steel cannula, or stainless steel tube, that is inserted under the skin and manually loosens fat. Once this process is done, suction is applied through the tube. Then, the fat is suctioned out of the body. For small areas, such as a part of the face, a syringe might be attached to the tube instead of powered equipment. This procedure allows for small cannulas to be used, and smaller incisions will be made for a more precise sculpting result.

With an ultra sound-assisted liposuction, a form of high frequency energy ultrasound breaks the fat cells and dissolves them before the suctions starts. This procedure can be done from the outside the skin, or through an incision inside. It is done outside the skin by placing a device outside the body that is emitting energy throughout the skin and soft tissue to the fat. Inner skin procedure is done when an ultrasound device is in the tip of the stainless steel tube and is inserted to liquefy the fat through the same incision that the suction will be done. This procedure is very useful when performing an area that might have a dense fatty tissue.

A power-assisted liposuction is an addition to regular liposuction that simply adds more power. The additional equipment will give the stainless steel tube a higher power to dissolve fat and prevent the surgeon from having to use too much force or energy.
